PassMonster: Options

PassMonster is a highly configurable application. Almost every aspect of its behavior can be customized using Options window depicted below:

PassMonster Options window

Startup and exit options

Launch PassMonster on Windows startup – set this option to make PassMonster start automatically on operating system startup

Start PassMonster minimized to TaskTray – set this option to make PassMonster start as a TaskTray icon without showing its main window.

Start PassMonster hidden (invisible) – set this option to make PassMonster start in Stealth mode, without showing its main window or TaskTray icon

Confirm exiting PassMonster – set this option to make PassMonster ask for confirmation on exit

On startup automatically load the following user data file – set this option and select the desired file if you wish it to be loaded each time you start PassMonster

Show Tip of the Day on startup – if you would like to see Tip of The Day window on program startup, check this option. NOTE: if you set PassMonster to start in TaskTray icon or Stealth mode the Tip of the Day window will not be shown.

Appearance

Show background graphics in main window – set this option to allow using skins in main window; turn this option off if you prefer the classic main window layout

TaskTray icon tip delay [ ] milliseconds – specify the delay (measured in 1/1000 of a second) before the tip appears when mouse cursor is over the PassMonster icon in TaskTray

Mask passwords – if this option is set all passwords will be masked with asterisks ‘*’; otherwise passwords will be shown in readable format. We strongly recommend setting this option to ON.

Main window text color – allows selection of main window text color. This setting is intended for increasing readability of text when using various skins (e.g. dark blue will look great on those brighter palette skins, while text may become unreadable on darker palette skins).

Special options

Delay before restarting [ ] milliseconds – specify the delay (measured in 1/1000 of a second) before PassMonster re-starts (applies when changing skins). We recommend keeping this value close to 100 or less on modern computer systems, while it may be necessary to set this value to over 500 ms on slower machines with older operating systems.

Show PassMonster UnHide keystroke (CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-P) when hiding – check this option to make PassMonster show a reminder window containing keystroke used to reveal PassMonster when it runs in Stealth mode. We recommend keeping this option for the first week you use this software (to make sure you remember it) and then setting this option to OFF.

Log all events (for high security environments) – check this option to enable action logging. We recommend setting this option to ON in the following cases: a) PassMonster runs on machine with multiple users; b) PassMonster runs on high level of security environment system. The events being logged may help identify users’ activity with PassMonster and help detect an intrusion from outside.

Extra security measures (wipe files on deletion, wipe memory data on free up, control over memory monitoring processes) – check this option if you are a ‘security paranoid’ (in good sense of this term) to enable PassMonster watch memory monitoring processes (i.e. hacker’s programs, Trojan horses, etc), and wipe data after use (works both for files and physical memory addresses). NOTE: setting this option may slow down PassMonster operation on your system. Set it only if you suspect hacker’s activity on your computer.

User settings and data

Path to user data files – specify custom path to user data files. This option is intended for advanced users (system administrators on multi-user systems) who would like to restrict PassMonster data access on system level (shared folder access rights). However you can use it to specify any path on your hard drive or network.

Default backup path – specify custom path to backup folder. This option is intended for advanced users (system administrators on multi-user systems) who would like to restrict PassMonster data access on system level (shared folder access rights). However you can use it to specify any path on your hard drive or network.

NOTE: if you are using free trial version of PassMonster some of the options will not have effect until you register your copy.

ANOTHER NOTE: ‘Log all events’ option will work in demo mode in trial version, i.e. PassMonster will log the time and date an action happened but will not tell which action it was and what user performed the given action.

Keep in mind that trial version is intended for demonstration purposes only; if you want all the power of PassMonster – purchase your copy now!
